Activate the licence
LOOP is commercial software. Creating, editing and deleting certifications and editions, importing CSV, the sending of notices — a test send and a resend included — and recomputing the validity window of an issued certificate all need an active licence. Everything read-only keeps working whatever the licence state — see What the licence covers.
Activate
- Go to Site administration → Plugins → Local plugins → LOOP → License.
- Enter the key you were issued. It looks like
LOOP-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX. - Choose Activate.
The page then shows the plan, the customer name, the expiry date, the grace date, how many sites the key allows and when it was last checked.

Activate a site with no internet access
Use Activate offline on the same page:
- Enter your licence key and choose Generate activation request.
- Copy the whole block shown and send it to your licence provider. It contains no personal data.
- Upload the signed entitlement file (
.lic) you receive in return, exactly as received.
An offline licence is never re-checked over the network, so upload a fresh entitlement file before the current one expires. Use Upload an updated entitlement to extend it.
If activation fails
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| The licensing server URL is not configured | Set it under Settings → Licensing. The default is your provider's service and normally needs no change. |
| All license slots are in use | Deactivate another site from its own License page, or ask for more seats. |
| Could not reach the licensing server | Check outbound HTTPS from the Moodle server. LOOP retries automatically, and a short outage is covered by offline grace. |
| This license has been revoked | Enter a different key, or remove the stored licence data from the same page. |
| The license entitlement was issued for a different site | The entitlement belongs to another installation. Ask your provider for one issued for this site. |
Renew, re-check, move a site
- After a renewal, choose Re-check now rather than waiting for the hourly validation to pick up the new expiry date.
- Deactivate releases this site's slot so the key can be used elsewhere. Notices stop until a licence is activated again.
- A key deactivated on the server side is cleared at the next check, and the site returns to Not licensed.
- Remove license data clears what is stored locally, for example before handing a staging site over.
What each status means
| Status | Notices | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Active | Sent | The licence is valid. |
| In grace period | Sent | Past its expiry date, but inside the extra time the server granted. Renew soon. |
| Active (offline grace) | Sent | The licence is fine; the server has not been reachable recently. LOOP keeps working for a limited number of days. |
| Expired | Paused | The licence lapsed and was not renewed. |
| Suspended | Paused | Stopped on the licensing server. |
| Revoked | Paused | Withdrawn on the licensing server and no longer usable. |
| Not licensed | Paused | No licence has been activated. |
In grace period and Active (offline grace) look similar and mean different things: the first is a licence past its date, the second a licence that could not be checked.
