How is Loop installed within Moodle?

Loop installs as a standard Moodle plugin (a local plugin): upload the ZIP from Site administration → Plugins → Install plugins. It integrates directly into the Moodle admin panels and requires no changes to Moodle core code.

Can reminders be customized?

Yes, per certification. Each certification carries its own reminder rules, one per trigger and offset — so 30, 15 and 3 days before expiry are three rules — each with its own subject and body. A rule can also be shared between certifications, in which case editing it affects all of them.

Which messaging platforms are supported?

Email only, using the mail configuration already set up in Moodle. There is no SMS, Slack or Teams channel.

How are annual recurring certifications handled?

This is Loop's specialty. From the certification's validity period (e.g., 12 months) Loop derives the expiry date from the completion date and starts the reminder cycle; once the user retakes the course, the cycle restarts from the new date. Loop does not manage course enrolments: it tracks certification status and sends the reminders.

Does it slow down Moodle server performance?

Loop computes nothing when a page loads: it reads stored state. All the recurring work — recalculating statuses, queueing and sending email — runs in Moodle's scheduled tasks, the status checks once a night and the mail queue on each cron run. Moodle cron therefore has to be running: without it, statuses stop moving and no email goes out.

The plugin's code is GPL v3, like Moodle itself. What is paid for is the licence key that enables the write features: creating and editing certifications and editions, CSV import, and the notification engine. Everything read-only — dashboards, user status, history, logs and CSV export — keeps working in any licence state, so an expired key never locks you out of your own compliance data.
